Phone locking pouches have become popular for schools, concerts, courts and workplaces. But quality varies widely. If you are evaluating pouches for a large deployment, here are the features that matter most.

The five features that matter

• Durability. The pouch should be made from thick neoprene or a similar soft, resilient fabric that protects the phone and survives daily use. Weak stitching or thin fabric will fail within weeks in a school environment.
• The locking mechanism. A magnetic tamper-evident tag is the industry standard. It should be easy to lock but impossible to open without the magnetic key. The tag should also be visible enough for staff to check at a glance.
• Size. Two sizes cover most users: a 10.5 inch pouch for standard smartphones and a 12.5 inch pouch for larger phones and small tablets. A deployment that mixes both sizes will cover almost every device in a school or venue.
• Branding. Schools and venues often want their logo or event name on the pouch. Make sure the supplier can print artwork cleanly and durably from a reasonable minimum order.
• Unlocking speed. At a concert or the end of a school day, staff must release hundreds of devices quickly. Magnetic unlocking stations and multiple keys are essential for large venues.
