The Kultusministerkonferenz ruled out a nationwide Handyverbot in June 2025 because schooling is Länder competence, so each of the 16 states sets its own rule. Several brought tightened restrictions into force for the 2025/26 school year, with enforcement left to each school's Hausordnung.
